A victory for green spaces in Venice

In the Birds Eye view dreamt up by Jacopo De Barbari in 1498 (see our newsletter on maps for more on this) the Giudecca island is largely made up of a patchwork green spaces, a far higher ratio than any other sestiere in Venice. However, there was no sign of the Palladian style Redentore Church at this point in history or its wonderful garden.
